Duffuor was a shareholder in Unibank and Finance Minister simultaneously – Haruna Mohammed counters NDC

A Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Haruna Mohammed has said that the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta cannot be accused of conflict of interest because he resigned as a director of Databank.

He expressed surprise at the posture of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the allegation made against Mr Ofor-Atta.

Speaking on the Big Issue on TV3 with Berla Mundi on Tuesday November 22, he indicated that former Finance Minister Dr  Kwabena Duffuor was a shareholder in Unibank and  Finance Minister concurrently but that was not an issue for the NDC.

“By virtue of his appointment Ken Ofori-Atta decided to resign as a Director of Databank,” he said.

“The NDC, when Dr Duffuor was a shareholder in Unibank and at the same time a Finance Minister, what was their position? Duffuor was a shareholder, I am just bringing it up for people to be know.”

Responding to him, private legal practitioner who is also a member of the NDC, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo said “Dufuor’s equalization doesn’t do justice to the issue.”

The NDC Minority in Parliament made a number of allegations against Mr Ofori-Atta fpr which they are seeking to remove hi from Office.

The accusations are “Despicable conflict of Interest ensuring that he directly benefits from Ghana’s economic woes as his companies receive commissions and other unethical contractual advantage.

Unconstitutional withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund in blatant contravention of Article 178 of the 1992 Constitution supposedly for the construction of the President’s Cathedral;

Deliberate and dishonest misreporting of economic data to Parliament Fiscal recklessness leading to the crash of the Ghana Cedi which is currently the worst performing currency in the world;

Alarming incompetence and frightening ineptitude resulting in the collapse of the Ghanaian economy and on excruciating cost of living crisis; Gross mismanagement of the economy which has occasioned untold and unprecedented hardship.
